1. Open an RGB image or background.
Choose the Type Mask tool
(T or Shift T)
and click in the image or
background where you want the type
to begin.
2. Choose
the type settings like font and style,
they enter your text, then click OK.
3. Leave
the type selected, and go to the layers
palette (Window > Show layers) and click
the layer above which you
want the
new adjustment layer to
appear.
4. Control
Click the Create New Layer
button on the Layers palette, choose and adjustment
type
like levels, then click OK. The type character
shapes will become
a mask for the adjustment layer.

5. Alt click the adjustment
layer
thumbnail to display the mask alone, alt click
again to restore the full image.
TIP 1 :
With the adjustment layer selected, choose
Image menu > Adjust > Invert (Control I) to swap
the black and white
areas of the adjustment layer mask.
TIP
2 : Use the Move tool (with auto select layer option NOT
checked)
to reposition a type mask on an adjustment layer.
